This quote haunts me to this day. My parents are amazing, and I truly love them, but there are things that I wished they would have done differently, and I know that my children are probably going to think the same thing about me, because we are all human, and the best way we learn is by making mistakes or watching other people make them. As a kid, the people that we looked up to the most were our parents, and I don’t know about you, but sometimes the thought that I have someone looking up to me is kind of scary. I know that I will never be the quote-unquote perfect mother, and I have come to terms with that, however, I am going to try my best to be the best imperfect mother that I can be. With that being said, lately, I have been trying to minimize the amount of TV that my child watches. Although sometimes, I will admit I give in because as a mom I need a break too. So let’s get into some of the ways that I have used to be more involved in Ivan’s life, even at a young age, and I hope that these tips will help another parent out there trying to find some answers to this problem as well.
“Be who you needed, when you where young.” -Unknown.
1. Get your babies footprints and fingerprints.
This is more for you Mom or Dad. Our babies are only little for a short amount of time. Get creative and find a way to keep the memory of those tiny little hands and feet. One day you look back, and that will be the only thing you have left to remember those sweet innocent days.
2. Sing to your baby.
I can promise you that I may not have the voice of an angel, but my baby seems to think that I do. Singing songs to your baby stimulates their mind, and it especially helps if you are singing the alphabet, numbers, or colors to them.
3. Count to ten.
Babies may not be able to count on their own, but counting their toes, and fingers, or playing piggy with them, will help them to understand to a certain level of what numbers are.
4. Try to limit screen time.
I know it’s tempting to put your kid in front of a television, and I am not going to say that I never do, however it has been proven that the less TV your baby watches the more creative their minds will be. If you need some you time, then I would suggest investing in these things.
- Baby bouncer helps get rid of all of the energy
- Baby Mirrors. Babies love to look at their own reflection
- Baby toys with lots of buttons, sounds, and lights
5. Make your pots and pans musical i
When I read about this idea I didn’t know if it would work, but Ivan absolutely loved it! I feel like it helped to open up his creative side. All you need are your pots and pans, a spatula as the drumstick, and a little imagination.
6. Go swimming.
The sooner you start swimming with your baby the better, because the longer you wait the more your child will be afraid to swim. We take our son Ivan to the swimming pool, and he sits in this baby float that we bought for him, and he has so much fun splashing around, and kicking his little legs. It’s seriously the cutest thing to watch.
7. Read with your baby.
This is a no-brainer. Just like using singing as a method to educate your baby, reading is also a way of educating their little minds. Another way you can help your baby is by investing in books that have things that they can touch, this will give them the chance to learn their sense of touch. The sooner you start reading to your baby the more they will begin to love it!
8. Have a
Start having playdates before they turn one. This will help them to start developing their social skills. We have a lot of people in our family, so Ivan has already had quite a few playdates, and he loves being around people.
9. Exercise with your baby.
This is actually probably one of my favorite things to do. Ivan may not know what we are doing, but he sure loves the 101 time he gets with mommy. It’s also a great way to get rid of the extra baby fat, without having to go to the gym, if that option is not open to you. You can find all sorts of
10. Make funny faces.
It is so much fun watching your baby mimic the faces that you make, and in the meantime you are showing them how to have emotions. I know it feels silly at first, but try it out. It is really cool watching your baby show their first emotions in their own little way.
