Just letting you know that this is an affiliate post, which means I may earn a small commision on anything that you purchase through the links, but at no extra cost to you. I will also be honest with you and only share things that I myself have tried or would be willing to purchase myself.
Hey everyone! Today I am going to be sharing with you some simple advice on how to start your first blog. Do you have a dream of being your own boss? Would you like to set your own hours, and be the one who determines who you will be? When I first decided to start a blog I had no clue what to do. It all started with a dream I had that one day I would influence women all around the world to be ambitious and reach for the stars. This journey has not always been an easy one, many sleepless nights, discouraging days, and moments where I doubt myself, but then I go back to the reason why I started in the first place, and today I am going to be sharing how you can get started turning your dream into a reality. So let’s get to it!
1. Find Your Nich
What are you good at or what do you enjoy? You don’t even have to be an expert at something if you have a passion for a specific thing you can turn it into something wonderful. Wouldn’t it be great to help others to learn things that you are passionate about? There are many things that I enjoy doing, but I have found that the thing that I most enjoy is helping people find wellness or health. Whether that be having healthier relationships, expressing your faith, depression or anxiety, exercises, or healthy eating advice, I enjoy writing about all of those things, so that is what most of my topics tend to be around. My blog is a lifestyle blog, so I can write about whatever I want, but for the most part, those are the things I typically will talk about.
Here are a few examples of different niches
- Lifestyle- a mixture of all of these things
2. The Next Step Is Hosting and Domain
When I first heard about hosting I felt kind of iffy about it. I didn’t know it was really necessary. I thought it was just a scam, and that the people who wrote the blog post where just out to get a commision off it. So I went the dumb route not knowing any better and started off on a free website with WordPress. In a way, I am glad I did it though because it helped me to see that this was something that I really wanted to invest in. Basically, if you are on a free website, then you won’t make any profit off it. I am not saying that you should blog for the profit of it, because to begin with it wasn’t about money for me, and it still isn’t. I love to write and engage with people across the world, but blogging is just like any other job. It takes work and dedication, and you have to pour your heart into it, so I believe that if you are going to do it full time then you should make some profit from it. However, some of my blog posts will not be affiliated, and I won’t make a profit from it, because for me it’s not just about money. I love what I do. And back to what I was saying, if you are wanting to make this a full-time thing then I would recommend using Siteground. That’s who I use for my hosting, and I wouldn’t be sharing this with everyone if I didn’t truly believe that they are the best out there. I have tried Bluehost because I had heard a lot of hype about it through different bloggers only to find out that most of the people who were recommending it where only doing it for the profit of it, while they were using Siteground. I am not saying that Bluehost is horrible, but I wouldn’t recommend it. Siteground is just so easy to navigate, and if you have any questions about it they will help you right away.

3. Stay Organized
I find that it’s a lot easier to blog if I have everything organized. I would suggest buying a planner that you can write in that will help you to stay on top of things. I also like having a notebook to write down my ideas, and it helps me to write better content.

4. Be Consistent
For me, in order to grow as a blogger, you don’t have to write every day. Pick two to three days out of the week to write, and make sure that what you are writing is good material that others will want to read. Here are three ways that you can be consistent with blogging.
- Atmosphere- Your atmosphere can determine what mood you’re in, and if you want to be ambitious and goal driven I would suggest that you have a tidy atmosphere. Creating a workspace at home is always a good idea, but if you get tired of the same scenery find a local cafe, somewhere quiet with soft music to write.
- Dress up most days. I know it’s tempting to stay in your comfies, but for me, I can’t always write that way, because if I don’t dress for the job I won’t be as driven as I could be.
- Don’t compare yourself to other bloggers who have probably been doing this for more than five years. I think it’s perfectly okay to find inspiration from others, but when we start comparing ourselves to people who are better than us it can make us want to give up. Remember this is not about their journey it’s about yours. Remember why you started and get off of Instagram.
